Our Leaders

Ian Roback
Founder / Technical Expert

Ian is a technology and practice innovator in wood waste management and nutrient pollution reduction. He’s the founder of Clear Water Nitrate Reduction and a technical expert in denitrification practices for agricultural/stormwater runoff, ecosystem services, and the production and use of carbon-based materials. He holds two (2) patents for his denitrification solution, and he’s certified by the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) as a Technical Service Provider in Wetland Creation. Ian has a master’s degree in natural resources and a second master’s degree in sustainable development from American University, Washington, DC.
Marshall Erickson

Marshall is a strategy, operations, and business development leader with in-depth knowledge of conservation practices. He leads business development and operations for Clear Water. Marketing, selling, developing, and deploying innovative solutions across our three practices. He delivers a unique blend of technical aptitude and business skills to Clear Water and our customers. Prior to Clear Water, Marshall successfully launched and led numerous new ventures and complex projects in executive roles. Marshall holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Minnesota, Duluth MN and a Master of Business Administration from the University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, MN.
